Pelvic Floor

Physiotherapy for Women’s Health is centred on educating and training women on pelvic floor health and function, in order to prevent potential future difficulties and incontinence.

Pelvic floor training is effective for women of all ages; pre and post childbirth, menopausal, seniors and those undertaking a fitness program.

These are usually the times when weak pelvic floor muscles are first noticed and with physiotherapy intervention, women can learn how to correctly identify and contract these muscles to assist with lifelong continence and wellbeing.

Pelvic floor muscle training is particularly important for the prevention and management of specific conditions related to bladder and bowel health and control.

Research indicates that in 80% of cases, something as simple as pelvic floor muscle training and education can prevent the need for invasive surgical interventions. Perhaps even better than this is the freedom, confidence and peace of mind people get when they overcome incontinence issues and regain control over their body.

Women's Pelvic Floor Health is a subject that is often considered too private for discussion and yet it can have an enormous impact on a person’s life and wellbeing. Incontinence issues can have a devastating effect on self confidence and quality of life, often leading to a loss of life enjoyment and further physical issues including prolapse, loss of general fitness as well as emotional issues due to isolation. Without treatment, it can assist in the development of medical conditions requiring in depth, and at times, surgical intervention. Many of these conditions can be avoided with a proactive approach dealing with pelvic floor muscle training, which is where my specialty lies.
